Roger wins another World Championship

The image “http://thefightworkspodcast.com/images/bjj-roger-gracie.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors. In what was a very full on few weeks Roger managed to fight in Japan and then this weekend fight and win his division in the IBJJF world championships.

Roger faced tough Judo and Jiu Jitsu black belt Leonardo Leite in the final of his weight category.

For some of the match they had been grip fighting from standing until about the 5 minute mark. Leite got a takedown at 5m53s for 2 - 0. At 6m42s Roger managed a sweep to make it 2 - 2. Then Roger worked his way to the mount  and went 9 - 2 ahead. Roger slowly crept up to work the hands in for the choke with under two minutes left and then at the 9m59s mark Roger made Leite tap from the choke.

The long awaited second match of Roger Gracie came and went with the lighting submission we are all used to seeing him use during his grappling matches. In a catch weight match, his opponent the very experienced Yuki Kondo fell into Gracie's game plan as so many others in the past.

In the top billing Josh Barnett beat Jeff Monson to a decision over 3 exciting  rounds. Other big news is that former UFC fighter and Gracie Barra team mate of Roger Gracie, Marcio “Pe De Pano” Cruz has signed to fight in Sengoku and will be fighting in the next edition on June 8th in Sengoku 3.
